Artist Statement

I have always enjoyed the many aspects of art. I was first interested in art in elementary school, but when I first took Art Foundations as a freshman was when I really started to appreciate creating something more than finger paintings. My favorite project to work on in Art Foundations was a painting of a sunset from North Carolina, I think this is because the photo had a purpose to me. The technique I used for this project was similar to Roy Lichtenstein's dot method, although I did not put the limitations on myself of only using primary colors like he does. My dots were not as clear as his are so up close it did not look like much, but I thought it was really something how the further away you are the better it looked. As a sophomore I took Graphics and Media which was another art class that i found fascinating. With the exception of these two art classes I have minimal art experience. I enrolled in IB Art after a year of watching my sister work on all of her projects. I loved almost piece she completed which amazed me considering her lack of artistic background. This gave me hope that after i completed this course i could also create something that was beyond my expectations. Throughout this class i also hope to learn about different artists, techniques, cultural influences, and to explore new mediums. After I complete this two year course i hope my horizons are broadened and that i become a more creative thinker. Thinking ahead to college I have no set plans for what I would like to study or be. I am hoping to do something more than sitting at a desk all day and I hope that this class will push me towards anything in that has to do with art. I am so excited for this year and next and hope that all my goals will be met.
